Sadako and the Cursed Video – Solution
You arrived at the house that was mentioned in an occult article.
This is where Sadako’s cursed video was rumored to be.
You enter through the front door which takes you to the living room. The light from a single vintage, chunky TV set pierces through the darkness.
Curiosity gets the better of you, so you settle down on the sofa, pick up the remote controller, and press “play.”
Sadako’s cursed video immediately starts playing on the screen.
Knowing you have been cursed, you had no choice but to advance further into the house.
The next room you step into is filled with uncanny decorations.
It dawned upon you that the owner of this house was probably a collector of unusual items, and among them was Sadako’s cursed video.
You find a written note left behind by someone in that room. According to that note, the only way to lift the curse was to find the “exorcism video” hidden somewhere in the house within 30 minutes.
You figured the person who wrote the note must have left more clues on his blog, so you contact Yoshi to look into it.
[The 3 passwords to unlock the blog entries]
You had to use clues inside the house to solve 3 puzzles and get the correct passwords to continue reading the blog.
[Wrist Puzzle]
Among the four hand sculptures in the room, only one of them has words tattooed on its wrist.
The tattoo says “Read the bolDed along with the italicized”.
Pick out only the letters that are bolded and in italics from that sentence, and you’ll get “Read Dotted”.
Next, pick out the letters that have dots under them, and you’ll get thr answer “death”.
[Flashlight Puzzle]
There were 4 boxes with the same markings found on the walls of the room.
Pointing the flashlight from the boxes in the direction of the arrows will bring up shapes of certain animals.
These were “spider”, “frog”, “beetle”, “mouse” from left to right.
Fill in these names into the correct blanks and pick up the letters in the numbered boxes. You will get the answer “torture”.
[Mask Puzzle]
Look inside the eyes of the mask in the image and you’ll see “Look in the mouth”. Look into the mouth and you’ll see “Under the noseless mask’s jaw”.
Look for the only mask in the room missing a nose and check under its jaw. You will see the password “misery”.
[Get the 3 photos]
Once you send the three passwords to Yoshi, he’ll have access to more clues on the blog.
Looks like the clues to the video’s whereabouts are locked inside the safes behind the doors that have the family crest.
[Room with the holes]
Enter the room and you’ll see the safe with the instructions: “Press both buttons inside the holes at the same time and look at the sliding door.”
Place your hands inside the holes and press the two buttons at the same time. The numbers “9640” will appear on the sliding door.
Open the safe with that code and you’ll obtain one of the photos.
[Bathroom]
You’ll find these instructions on the safe: “The numbers at the end of the bathtub chain will open this. You’ll find a chain inside the bathtub. Pull it up and you’ll see the numbers “4210” at the end. Open the safe with this number to obtain another photo.
[Dark room]
Enter the room and you’ll see countless photos.
You’ll find these instructions on the safe:
Look through the photos hung on the wall and find the one with a TV on it. You’ll find another set of instructions behind it. Keep following the instructions and you’ll reach the 4-digit code “6740”.
Open the safe with this number to obtain another photo.
[After obtaining the 3 photos]
Once you’ve obtained all three photos, you’ll get the following image from Yoshi.
It appears to be a piece of paper previously found inside the house.
The instructions are “Connect the items that the symbol 貞 lays upon in chronological order.”
You identify the items in each of the 3 photos you have that bears the symbol “貞”, and
connect them “in chronological order”, meaning the earliest to latest date each photo was taken.
You start with the leaf, connect that to the comb, and end with the tricycle, giving you “go to the well.”
[The well]
Perhaps there’s a clue inside the well.
You exit through the backdoor to get to the backyard where the well is.
Just as you’re thinking “Let’s see what we’ll find there…”, Sadako crawls right out of the well!
After a moment passes, she withdraws back into the well. You summon the courage to peek inside. Nothing but darkness greets you back.
Confused, you return to the building only to find a new room you have not entered yet.
[Mirror room]
According to the new clue you found in the room, you have to enter the mirror room and open the chest. You turn off your flashlight and enter the mirror room.
You endured the spin-chilling atmosphere and waited in fear for the chest to open. You catch a glimpse of a terrifying figure through the mirror’s reflection…
[The remaining photos]
You obtain two more photos from the mirror room.
Recalling the three similar photos you had from earlier, you revisited the puzzle to connect five items now instead of three.
Doing so gave you a new clue.
The instructions you got was “Make everyone the same.”
Who does ‘everyone’ refer to?
It meant the five people photographed in each of the five photos you have.
Everyone in the photos have their faces blacked out–All except one.
With a little hesitation, you black out the last person’s face with the pen.
After shading the face, some Japanese characters appeared.
You recall Yoshi’s instructions and text him “Japanese”.
He sends back several options in Japanese.
While you couldn’t understand the characters that appeared on the photo, you could match it against the options that Yoshi sent you. It’s the only one with 4 characters and corresponds with the 5th option from Yoshi.
You learn that the characters 手洗い場 meant “Washroom”, and that was where you were supposed to go next.
You send “Washroom” to Yoshi and head there.
[Washroom puzzle]
You enter the washroom. It’s filthy.
You find a corpse behind a door at the back of the washroom.
Perhaps this is the body of the person behind the blog…
You notice an open chest next to the corpse.
You rummage through it and retrieve a memo, a videotape, and a smaller chest.
This is it! All you have to do is watch this video and you’ll be saved.
However, your excitement was cut short by a set of instructions written on the memo.
“The words on the videotape mention how to uncover the correct gesture.”
You learn that you had to hold a certain hand gesture while you watched the exorcism video.
Your trials continue.
Written on the back of the exorcism videotape was “Check all chests.”
With the time limit looming over you, you frantically look through the big and small chests.
You find words on them.
You put together all the words in order and get “Put hands together.”
The hand gesture was putting your hands together.
Just as you were about to leave the washroom, a nagging feeling inside you arises.
That corpse… Why did someone who got this far solving the puzzles end up dying?
Did he run out of time?
No… His memo said “I’m running out of time. I better hurry and check the wooden chests.”
So, why did he die?
There must be something more to this puzzle.
You decide to trust your gut and search the washroom once more.
Just then, it hit you.
Did “chest” only refer to the wooden boxes?
Isn’t there another meaning to the word “chest”?
You follow your intuition and check the chest area of the jersey you’re wearing, and find another clue hidden on the inner side.
You found the exact hand gesture you had to make.
With this new-found information, you rush to the study with the videotape in hand.
You did it. You had beaten the final tricky puzzle to get the correct hand gesture and survived Sadako’s curse.
